FAQ and Information on the Uniting for Peace Resolution
The United Nations was born from genocide. Its charter was written to prevent another Holocaust. And yet today, as Gaza starves, burns, and bleeds, the UN remains paralyzed by the US veto in the Security Council. The United National General Assembly has a September 18 one-year deadline for Israel to comply with the World Court and the UN Resolution A/ES-10/L.31.
The UN began its 80th session on Sep 8, 2025 and could vote on the Uniting for Peace (UfP) Resolution as soon as Sept 18 with the following mandates as requirements:
- What are the Demands for the Palestinian Requested Uniting for Peace Resolution for the General Assembly?
- UN Mandated Multinational Armed Protective Force
- Safeguard Palestinian civilians from further violence and displacement
- Support the UN’s unrestricted entry and distribution of humanitarian aid, including efforts from civil society to break the siege with the Global Sumud Flotilla
- Preserve and secure evidence of potential war crimes and human rights violations
- Facilitate the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure
Calls on All Member States to:
- Mandate an immediate, lasting ceasefire, require Israel to withdraw all armed forces from Gaza, and halt all attacks by air, land, and sea
- Impose a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel
- Cease all trade, investment, economic, diplomatic, and cultural relations with the Israeli government
- Strip Israel of its United Nations credentials (as the UNGA did in the case of apartheid South Africa) and Activate UN Anti-Apartheid Mechanism
- Reaffirm the right of the Palestinian people to use all necessary means to resist colonial domination and foreign occupation, including through armed struggle in accordance with international law
- Enforce International Court Rulings and establish Criminal Tribunals
- How does this call for a Multinational Armed Protective Force through the UN Uniting for Peace Resolution stop the genocide?

- What is this United Nations Mechanism “Uniting for Peace”?
- Adopted in 1950, Uniting for Peace resolves that if the Security Council fails to exercise its responsibility to maintain international peace and security, the General Assembly (UNGA) may bypass the Security Council and call an emergency special session, which will be held within 24 hours. To date, 11 such emergency special sessions have been convened.
- Under this mechanism, the UNGA could mandate a multinational armed defense force to deploy to Gaza and the West Bank, acting at the request of the state of Palestine civil society and coalition of organizations alongside the Palestinian NGO Network, to protect civilians, open entry points via land and sea, ensure humanitarian aid, preserve evidence of Israeli crimes, and assist in recovery and reconstruction.
- *BEWARE* What the Palestinian called for Uniting for Peace Resolution in the General Assembly is NOT:
- Because Uniting for Peace refers to the mechanism by which the UN General Assembly can break the deadlock when the Security Council is failing in its responsibility to maintain international peace, there can be–and currently ARE–multiple, conflicting proposals being put forth. The deceptive French-Saudi Diplomatic Initiative, also known as the New York Declaration demands a so-called “stabilization force” designed to surveil the Palestinian population and continue their annihilation.
- Although the French-Saudi initiative aka New York Declaration has been endorsed by the European Union, the Arab League, and others, it is NOT the proposal urgently requested by Palestinian civil society and leadership.
- Unless the demand for a UN Mandated Multinational Armed Defense Force is included in the resolution, it will serve as another smokescreen for continued Israeli impunity and genocide.
- *BEWARE* The French Saudi UN Proposal is:
- A delay tactic to continue the genocide of Palestinians and ethnic cleansing of their land in all Palestinian Occupied Territories.
- NOT calling to stop the genocide
- NOT calling for armed international intervention or any protection of Palestinian rights under international law
- NOT in solidarity with Palestinians and Palestinian leadership
- NOT working to a just solution to occupation mandated under international law and the International Court of Justice 2024 Ruling on the illegality of ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and their removal from these territories.

- Is demanding military intervention to stop genocide a declation of war?
- This is a means to stop genocide and the expansion of military aggression by Israel, NOT to expand it.
- We all, as individuals, countries, and organizational bodies, have an obligation under international law to stop genocide.
- Under the 1948 Genocide Convention and rooted in the highest-level rules of international law (so-called jus cogens and erga omnes obligations), all nation states have an obligation to use all means at their disposal to prevent and punish genocide, and to protect those under occupation, ethnic cleansing, and genocide; and to ensuring that their own actions don’t aid or abet such acts. This includes the prohibition of genocide, of aggression, of the acquisition of territory by force, and of acts that violate the right to self-determination.
- Would this be UN Peacekeepers?
- No: This Uniting for Peace resolution comes through the UN General Assembly. UN Peacekeepers are initiated and deployed by the UN Security Council.
- This is a separate UN mechanism to initiate a multinational set of forces, supplies, and equipment from each country.
- This would not be UN blue hat brigades.
- Would this be American troops?
- No – this is an international protective force made up of varied countries contributing military support, vessels, humanitarian assistance etc
- Does this have support of Palestinians and Palestinian organizations?
- Won’t this be stopped by the United States veto?
- No, as a resolution that passes through the UN General Assembly, with ⅔ support from the General Assembly it will bypass the Security Council and thus the USA veto.
- What is the difference between the UN General Assembly and Security Council?
- The General Assembly includes all 193 member states.
- The Security Council is composed of 5 permanent members with veto power of any resolution.
- What organizations have been organizing around this campaign?
